The adventure of recycling
Note: Due to renovation work, there will be no ecotours of the plastics sorting plant from September 2024 to September 2025.
The automatic plastics sorting plant processes around 32,000 tonnes of packaging waste every year. The main task here is to segregate lightweight packaging waste from aluminium cans and tetra-pack beverage cartons. This involves a number of technologies, including infra-red sensing and colour recognition devices. The plant sorts and processes plastic packaging waste from all over Styria, as well as Carinthia and Vienna. More than 80% of the material received at the plant is returned to an environmentally-friendly materials cycle.

ThermoTeam’s high-tech plant, a joint venture between Saubermacher and Holcim, treats energy-rich waste to turn it into high-quality alternative fuel for the cement industry. The aim is a medium-term shift away from fossil fuels such as coal. ThermoTeam thus makes an important contribution to reducing CO2 emissions and conserving resources, while at the same time setting a new recycling standard.
